Clinical Supervision
I’ve been supervising Associates in various settings since 2011. I’ve helped early career therapists in many different settings. From seeing their first clients in graduate school, to their first post-grad positions in agencies, or as they build their private practice. I’ve seen a significant amount of change in our field during that time. This history is an important context for the foundation of supervision and vital to pass on to the next generation of therapists. At this time, I’m focused on supervising Associates who want to learn relational psychotherapy methods, how to treat complex interpersonal trauma, and who really want to explore their own issues that impact their ability to grow into this work.

I believe early career professionals deserve strong support to build the foundation of their careers in counseling and psychotherapy. While supervision is primarily meant to strengthen your clinical skills, we will also work on issues of systemic dysfunction in institutions, vicarious trauma, your areas of privilege and oppression and cultural awareness. I use the Discrimination Model, Relational Alliance Model & Relational Cultural Theory as my primary supervision modalities. I will always consider your development and competency level with an emphasis on supporting your growth and development. I also believe clinicians need truly safe and engaging spaces to address their own mental health in supervision. I help associates develop their clinical skills, areas of expertise, and work through complicated ethical or self-of-the-therapist issues.
My clinical specialties are centered on exposure based trauma processing, bipolar disorder, and working with activists, organizers, and people seeking a directly political approach to counseling.
I am current screening for Associates who are interested in or have applied to the post graduate cohort for The Kiln. Feel free to reach out if you have questions about this: kh@drhixson.com
